Training > Just my Type

A unique programme for embedding the MBTI in the real world.

The introverts, the extroverts, the ones that do crosswords at lunchtime, the ones who skateboard to work, the ones who doze in meetings. Ah, if only ability to do the job was the only thing that mattered. But, everyone is different – and everyone has to work together.

Bit of a double edged sword isn't it? You need diversity in skills and aptitudes to ensure successful growth and development - but sometimes the price for diversity is miscommunication and conflict. Now, some conflict is good- it can act as an engine that drives things forwards, ensures that no-one is becoming complacent – but equally sometimes it's negative, unnecessary and gets in the way of doing business. We all know, we've all been there.

Which is why tools like the Myers Briggs Type Indicator can be an absolute godsend.

It reveals our preferences, illuminates our differences and provides us with a simple but incredibly effective framework for understanding others. It gives us tools for working with others as individuals, it enables us to map our strengths and weaknesses as a team. It's the most acclaimed and widely used psychometric tool in the world – if it was a lager, you know what I'd say. And it's been around for more fifty years.

Whoa....just hold your horses there...

I know, I know.. I had exactly the same thoughts- if it's so good, if it's so widely used, how come everyone isn't using it? Even more, how come people issues still hit productivity in companies where they've used it before?

These were the questions that led us to develop Just my type ©

Imagine if you will, that you learnt to drive on one of those intensive courses – over two or three days. Now, chances are you'd be able to drive.

But now I'd want you to imagine that you didn't get into a car or drive again for a couple of years. Would that be a problem? Would you be a bit rusty?

Well, that is often how it is for people learning and utilising the MBTI. They go off for a two or three day course – maybe around communication or team building. And they learn about the MBTI – they learn about themselves and about others. It's fantastic, but it's a lot to take in. Truth is, I've lost count of the number of people I've come across who've done Myers Briggs and can't remember their own type – let alone anyone else's.

We believe that in order to really reap the fantastic benefits that type understanding can bring, that understanding needs to be fixed in the real world, your world, your workplace. It needs to be second nature – what psychologists call ‘unconscious competence' – To go back to the driving analogy, when you get in the car now, you drive off without having to consciously think - check handbrake – mirror- signal-manoeuvre etc... because you've had so much practice, that it's second nature.
Just my type
