Training > Just Do It

Creative thinking, developing your self awareness, understanding others.....
All of the above are extremely important attributes- vital components that will enhance your business’s ability to achieve great results.
However, they need to be accompanied by both the skill and desire to get things done. Otherwise, creativity isn’t translated into that innovative product or service, and those people skills don’t become great teamwork, great sales figures and fabulous customer satisfaction.
However, many of the more traditional methods of organising our work are no longer effective, in particular systems that focus on outdated methods of ‘time management’
Time management – who’s kidding who?
I’ve always wondered how as a mere mortal I could aspire to manage time? If I’m really good can I create 11 minutes out of ten? Will it stand still if I snap my fingers?
Well – eh no...
The real trick is making better use of the time we’ve got – less about managing time, more about managing ourselves.
How many people do you know who say they’ve got too much to do and not enough time to do it? How about you? Modern technology may have simplified many work systems – but it also means that we are now bombarded with millions of ‘bits’ of information on a daily basis - we’re never out of touch, or out of the office. No wonder we’re all suffering from information overload.
All of which can mean rising stress levels and feeling out of control. Hardly conducive to productivity and high performance.
What’s changed?
Probably, the biggest single factor is the shift in what constitutes ‘work’. For our parents and grandparents, it was cranking widgets, shearing sheep or carrying out a specific task on the assembly line. The point is – work tasks had a beginning, a middle and an end. These days, work is often open-ended and the boundaries – vertical and horizontal have been blurred. So, most people are working on a number of different projects at any one time.
That probably means you and your team all have a number of unfinished projects all demanding your attention at the same time.
So.... what’s the answer?
The first step is to capture everything that is unfinished into a system outside of your head. If it’s on your mind, your mind’s not clear. Everything in one place.
Secondly, you need to review and clarify each commitment and decide on what course of action you need to take to ensure your progress towards successful completion.
Thirdly, you need to organise reminders in a system that you’ll actually review and use on a regular basis.
Hardly rocket science .....
Ok , but how many people do you know that actually do it – oh they mean to – they want to – but stuff keeps getting in the way.
The answer lies in understanding and practising the simple principles that underpin personal organisation and workflow mastery:
