Training > Communication & Influencing Skills
The power of the word...

A lot of people are able to handle the technical aspects of their job with relative ease, but may find it difficult to get to grips with those ‘people issues' like making a good impression when it really counts; with colleagues, with clients or the boss.
Being able to motivate and influence those around you is essential; both in business and personally, and nobody in their right mind would disagree with the notion that excellent communication skills is the key to success.
We communicate with others every day on many different levels. But, we don't usually take the time to analyze how our natural style of communication and interaction affects those around us.
The truth is – the more we know about ourselves, the more we think about how we communicate and the more easily we can adapt our communication style to suit the circumstances – the greater the chance there is that we will be understood. To say nothing of dramatically enhancing our ability to influence others.
The power of one....
All of us, some of the time, need to influence others- whether it's to get them to do what we want them to do, or to encourage them to see things differently. Certainly, in the business environment, there are times when we need to negotiate prices, deadlines or terms of a contract. We also need to be adept at influencing those around us, our colleagues, team members, bosses, direct reports - in fact everyone we come into contact with.
The people who are most adept at influencing are those who possess the best interpersonal and communication skills. These are the people who have the ability to get the support of others and they understand and utilise their sphere of influence.
At Barnes Cosgrove we believe that in order to become good and effective communicators, we need to understand ourselves, the process and others.
